Spring is here and we are seeing beautiful colours everywhere outside, giving our mood a real boost, a sense of a fresh new start and revitalised energy. Whilst we're spending more time outside and in the garden, we still crave that nice feeling of retreating to a nice bedroom towards the end of the day.

How do we bring that enjoyable spring feeling inside?

Refresh your child's bedroom with a spring clean

With the longer and lighter days and the sun shining through a proper spring clean might be needed. I certainly know that I'm suddenly noticing more dust and marks on furniture, walls, doors, floors and carpets. The more light we have in the house, the more this is noticeable - and the spider season has definitely started. So, a good declutter and spring clean is a great start.

Is the furniture and room decor right for your child's age?

This is also a good time to assess whether your child has grown out of the bed and furniture in their bedroom, as well as the room decor. They grow up so fast, and their needs change throughout their development. Sometimes we forget how long it has been since we last updated their room. Of course, it can be expensive to change all the furniture in their bedroom, and it might not be necessary.

The focal point of the bedroom is the bed. Is it still fit for purpose and giving your child all the extra benefits in the bedroom, apart from somewhere to sleep?

Ask yourself and your child these questions:

  • Is the style and size of their bed right for them, and does it work well with the shape and size of their bedroom?
  • Could you improve the layout of the bedroom with another type of bed?
  • Would life be easier if the bed had integrated storage so your child could organise their things better?
  • Would it be handy if the bed incorporated a desk where your child could draw, do homework, play with toys/Lego etc?
  • Does your child love sleepovers? Would sleepovers be easier if your child's bed also had an easy pull-out sleepover bed for friends?

Explore some stylish options of space-saving beds:

Raised beds are designed to incorporate clever extra functions and features that will not take up more floor space in the bedroom. Therefore, they are excellent for smaller bedrooms.

Transform with trending colours

The colours you and your child choose for the bedroom can significantly impact the room's transformation and help achieve the desired atmosphere. Your child may already have some favourite colours in mind. If not, it is fun to explore options together, and a good starting point could be taking inspiration from the colours of some of the existing decor that you are planning to keep.

Consider:

The room size - Lighter colours can help make the room feel bigger and more spacious, whilst darker colours can help make the room feel warmer and more cosy.

Desired mood - Do you want an energising and vibrant room, a playful room, a calming and relaxing room or perhaps a themed room?

Blues - timeless and chic blue

Blue tones can effectively enhance bedrooms, creating either an uplifting or a calming and cosy atmosphere, depending on the specific shade of blue selected.

Soft blues, like Borrowed Light from Farrow & Ball, can be combined with a range of darker and more vibrant blues and greens to establish a stylish and cheerful ambience in your child's bedroom. This colour palette pairs nicely with white-finished furniture.

A deeper shade of blue, Stiffkey Blue by Farrow & Ball, paired with green and mustard yellow, complements the warm white bed beautifully. The bedroom exudes a welcoming and nostalgic atmosphere that would appeal to children of all ages. The blend of colours creates a sense of calm and harmony.

Neutrals paired with accent colours - classic sophistication.

Beige, grey, and white are classic neutral choices that can be combined with various accent colors to establish a particular mood in your child's bedroom.

Opting for a neutral colour on the walls contributes to a timeless and classic appearance. Shades of pinks and reds introduce warmth, a youthful feel, and a cheerful atmosphere to the bedroom, beautifully complementing the white bed and furniture.

A gentle grey wall colour complements the warmer grey of the bed, while the whites and soft greys in the bedding, combined with the green, create a fresh and stylish simplicity that exudes calm and harmony.

Greens - balance and harmony

The effect of the color green used in interior spaces is often referred to as soothing and invigorating. It fosters a feeling of balance and harmony, establishing a serene and peaceful environment. Additionally, green has a calming influence on the mind, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Opting for a deep, earthy green for the walls introduces harmony and tranquillity into this bedroom. This colour choice complements neutral tones in bedding and other soft furnishings, making it an excellent way to style a room with white furniture for teenagers and young adults.

A light shade of sage green and mint greens brings to mind the crispness of fresh mint leaves and is commonly linked to spring, new starts, and calmness. It inspires a sense of freshness, youth, and peace. Pairing mint with the elegant lilac enhances the room, with the grey bed serving as the centrepiece.
